Equality, Diversity and Accessible Information

Our commitment to equality

Castletown Medical Centre is committed to providing fair and equal access to services for all patients, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation (the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010).

We aim to ensure that:

  • No patient is discriminated against, directly or indirectly, in how they access or receive care
  • Our services are designed and delivered to meet the diverse needs of our patient population
  • Staff receive training on equality, diversity, and inclusion appropriate to their role
  • Reasonable adjustments are made for patients with disabilities or additional needs, wherever possible

If you feel you have experienced discrimination when accessing our services, please let us know - see our Complaints Procedure page for how to raise this.

Accessible Information Standard

We follow the NHS Accessible Information Standard, which means we aim to identify, record, flag, and meet the information and communication needs of patients (and where appropriate, their carers or parents) who have a disability, impairment, or sensory loss.

This may include providing information in accessible formats, such as:

  • Large print
  • Easy read
  • Braille
  • Audio format
  • Via email, where this is more accessible for you

If you, or someone you care for, needs information in an alternative format, or communication support during an appointment (for example, a British Sign Language interpreter), please let a member of our team know so we can arrange this and record your preference for future contact.

Interpreting and translation services

We want everyone to be able to access our services and understand information about their care, regardless of the language they speak.

If English is not your first language, or you would prefer to use an interpreter, please tell us when booking your appointment so that we can arrange interpreting support. This service is free of charge. Please avoid using family members, particularly children, to interpret for you where possible, as this isn't always appropriate for medical conversations.

Written materials can also be translated into other languages on request. Please speak to reception for more information.
